About Our School

St Bede’s is an 11-16 mixed Roman Catholic comprehensive school situated in the west of Blackburn.

We provide a first-class education, in the context of the Catholic faith, which is inspired by the Gospel.

The school’s admission number has been increased recently reflecting the reputation of the school within the borough and demand from parents.  We are a truly inclusive school providing challenging and supportive learning experiences for the all our pupils irrespective of their starting point or ability.

Each year the school is over-subscribed and enjoys a reputation within the local community for high standards of behaviour and achievement. Our examination results are significantly above the national and local average year on year.

We also place great importance on achievement in other areas of school life.  The success of St Bede’s in sport is very impressive, as is our reputation for performing arts. However, we are equally proud of the way in which our pupils conduct themselves when representing the school.  The staff demand and receive the highest levels of conduct, good manners and appearance from all our pupils.

We also have a commitment to educational visits so that experience of students is broadened and their learning is put into a context.  Visits include numerous residential trips both overseas and in the UK. We run a highly successful Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and a full programme of retreats and away days for pupils through the school’s chaplaincy. In total, there will be over 100 educational visits for St Bede’s students every year.

The school is organised in academic departments and four mixed aged vertical college.  Most teachers have responsibility for one of the house groups in each year but all staff have a clear responsibility for the spiritual and moral welfare of pupils.
