Head Pupils' Welcome

We are the Head Pupils, and we are incredibly proud to represent our school, which is not just a place of learning but a vibrant, supportive community where every student matters. Whether you are a new pupil joining us or a returning member of our school family, we want you to feel welcome, valued, and excited about the journey ahead.

Our school is built on a foundation of mutual respect, kindness, and a commitment to excellence in all that we do. We believe that everyone has unique talents, and it’s our goal to ensure that each and every student has the opportunity to shine – not only academically but also personally and socially.

Throughout your time here, you’ll find an extensive network of support. From our dedicated teachers and staff to your fellow students, there is always someone to turn to. Pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do, and our friendly team of Prep tutors, Year Teams, and peer mentors are here to guide and support you, whether you’re facing challenges or celebrating achievements.

As Head Pupils, we are here to represent your voice, and we are always available to listen, help, and encourage positive change. We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels part of something special and has the chance to make the most of their time at school.

We are excited to share all the amazing opportunities and experiences that await you here. So, get involved, explore your interests, ask questions, and, most importantly, enjoy every moment of your time with us.

Welcome to our school community!

Student Leadership Team

Stewardship at St. Bede’s

Our Student Leadership Team are a vital part of the St Bede’s Community. They are representative of the whole student body, from Years 7-11. They meet regularly with school leaders, and act to make positive change within our school and local community.

Our Head Pupils and Prefects are from Year 11, whilst the range of other leadership roles is spread across all the other year groups. This gives them a broad range of opportunities and experience to draw on when planning and working on projects. They are also positive role-models for their peers and each other.

Aims of the Student Leadership Team:

  • To empower students to work in partnership with staff towards shared goals.
  • To provide opportunities for students to flourish within the school and the wider community.
  • To allow students to develop leadership skills and other transferable skills which will help them prepare for life after school and college.
  • To make sure every child feels safe and welcome in school.

St. Bede’s will:

  • Provide a Student Leadership tie and blazer pin badge for our Prefects and Head Pupils so they can shine as leading examples of our school
  • Provide all other Student Leadership roles with a blazer pin badge so they can be easily identified around school by all members of the community
  • Provide a wide range of participation and leadership opportunities which cater for all students in school.
  • Provide students with access to key staff for support and guidance.

Heads of Year

Each Head of Year oversees all aspects of the students’ school experience to ensure it is positive and harmonious. Heads of Year work closely with Assistant Heads of Year. They are responsible for tracking the attitudes to learning of all students and will work closely with Prep tutors and parents/carers to ensure support is available where it is needed. We have a static Head of Year 7 who is experienced in liaising with a wide range of feeder schools. This system ensures that students transition quickly into their new surroundings and adapt to the demands made upon them in their secondary school studies. After Year 7, students move to a new Head of Year who oversees their transition into Year 8.

Prep Tutors

The Prep tutor has a pivotal role to play and will act as the first point of contact between school and home. Due to their consistent contact with students, tutors build meaningful relationships with the students in their group. Where concerns of a social or academic nature arise, tutors will initiate contact with parents/carers to resolve issues, normally via email or phone call. Prep tutors will be aware of the attitudes towards learning and academic targets of students within their group. Where there are concerns, in the first instance, tutors will work with home to resolve any barrier to success. Students will be expected to arrive in school on time, ready to learn and in full uniform. Prep tutors provide support, advice and guidance to students and will also refer concerns to the Year Team
